Countdown to the premiere of Martin’s 2nd orchestral program with jazz ensemble

Heinz Moser and Martin Schaberl have enjoyed a personal and musical friendship for decades, which manifests itself in this special project. Many great musicians from the region and beyond unite to form a unique ensemble.

Comments on the premiere

“Despite their complexity, the compositions are easy to understand and the connection between the orchestra and the virtuoso jazz band is organic. (…) You can sense the high standards and fine musicality that characterize Martin Schaberl. Definitely a recommendation!” (Kleine Zeitung)

“Martin Schaberl’s music for symphonic orchestra and jazz ensemble unites rhythmic and harmonic demands (…) The arrangements do not simply juxtapose orchestra and band, but weave both into a carpet on which the melodies can spread out comfortably.” (Martin Kratky-Jazzmusiker)

“Congratulations on this fabulous and challenging score!” (Wolfgang Hattinger-Conductor)

Instrumental acquisition No. 2

Last week at Siccas Guitars in Karlsruhe, Germany, I fulfilled my long-standing wish and bought what will probably be my last classical guitar. It’s a Cedar Top by Jeremie Geffroy from France. The new microphone is a Schoeps Mono Set CMC 1 U + MK 4 and now I just have to find a good pickup and have it installed. Together with Domenica Moffa’s Mithra, this is the perfect instrument set-up for all further concerts, especially the orchestra concert at the end of October in Leoben, Austria.

Preparation of a chamber music ensemble

Recently Martin has begun work on compositions and arrangements for a chamber music ensemble. An exciting project for classical ensemble with improvisation.

Resumption of work for symphonic orchestra

In addition to planning concerts for 2022 and beyond, Martin is resuming work on compositions and arrangements for symphonic orchestra and jazz ensemble. These are expected to find their way onto the stage in 2024.

WORKSHOPS 2021

For instrumentalists, singers and bands with the jazz guitarist Martin Schaberl

After a longer break, they will be back in spring 2021: interactive workshops on topics that are essential for all instrumental musicians, singers and bands.
The contents form a solid basis for musical work. You will reach your goal faster, better and safer because you will learn to understand terms and musical contexts both theoretically and practically.
The participants also learn how to see and solve problems from others. Each workshop is self-contained. Since the topics are closely interwoven, it would be advisable to attend several workshops. Of course there are discounts for this.

EAR TRAINING

Saturday, May 8, 2021, 10-13 & 15-18 h

What is hearing, what is listening, what is analytical hearing? Where does my hearing actually stand, how can I train it; what do I need to be able to “listen down” songs?
